Venture capitalist Reid Hoffman, who co-founded LinkedIn, says young people should use AI savvy as a selling point when seeking work.
“You are a generation AI. You are AI native. Bringing the fact that there is AI in your toolset is one of the things that makes you very attractive,” Hoffman said in a video released on his YouTube channel on Thursday.
Hoffman was dealing with questions about how college students should navigate job hunts. Several students asked Hoffman about the impact that AI could have on employment outlook.
Hoffman said in the video that the impact of AI on work is “justified concern,” but added that students can try to use it to their advantage.
“On this side, we're changing the confusion for workspaces, entry-level jobs, and employers,” he said. “But on this side you can demonstrate your unique abilities. That's what you know, you may be able to help them in an environment with many elderly people.”
Representatives from Hoffman did not respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.
The rise of AI has sparked fear that businesses could potentially hire fewer people in the coming years. Last month, humanity CEO Dario Amodei said in an interview with AXIOS that AI could wipe out half of all entry-level office jobs.
In an interview, Amodei also said that unemployment could reach 20% within five years.
“Most of them don't know this is going to happen,” he said. “It sounds crazy, and people don't believe it.”
Not all business leaders agree with Amodei's disastrous predictions.
Jensen Huang, CEO of chip giant Nvidia, told reporters on the sidelines at Vivedch 2025 in Paris this week that Amodei was wrong.
“I barely agree with anything he says,” the fans said. “He thinks AI is very scary, but only they should do it.”
Huang said some jobs will disappear, but AI could create new job opportunities.
“Do you think AI will change jobs? It changes for everyone – it changed mine,” Huang said.
Mark Cuban made a similar reaction to Amodei's comments as well as Huang. The “Shark Tank” star wrote in a Bluesky post last month, rather than creating and destroying the work, it said.
“Someone needs to remind the CEO that at some point there was a secretary that was over 2m long. There was also another employee that should do in the office oral. They were the original white collar displacement,” Cuba wrote.
“New companies with new jobs will come from AI and increase total employment,” he added.
