Reddit filed a lawsuit against human AI startup on Wednesday, claiming that the $61.5 billion startup used the site as a training ground for AI models without permission.
In a 42-page complaint filed Wednesday in a Northern California court, Reddit alleged that humanity violated Reddit's user agreement using the site's data for commercial purposes. Humanity is said to be training AI models on posts created without consent from Reddit users.

According to TechCrunchthe lawsuit comes as a legal challenge to AI startups over the material used by large tech companies to train AI models.
“We don't tolerate any entities seeking profits that would make use of Reddit content billions of dollars without respecting the returns and privacy of redditors.” TechCrunch In a statement.
Meanwhile, in a statement e-mailed to CNBC“We will oppose Reddit's claims and will vehemently defend ourselves.”
In July 2024, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman called for humanity, Microsoft and confusion for fraudulently cutting off the site to train data, and humanity spokesman assured Reddit had stopped. However, since then, Reddit claims that the human bot has registered its site more than 100,000 times in accordance with the complaint.

Other companies use Reddit data for AI training, but only after signing a formal agreement with the company. Reddit signed a $60 million licensing agreement with Google in February 2024, allowing Google to train Gemini AI with Reddit data. Reddit signed a similar agreement with Openai in May 2024, so ChatGpt-Maker can improve its AI model from Reddit posts.
In the lawsuit against humanity, Reddit writes that Openai and Google are permitted to use public Reddit content, but only after agreeing to Reddit's license terms. Humanity does not agree to any terms and uses the site's data without permission, Reddit argues.

Reddit has over 100 million active users in the hundreds of thousands of Subreddit communities, according to the complaint. The company said the purpose of the lawsuit was to seek damages. I am seeking a trial.
Reddit was released in March 2024 and is valued at over $21 billion at the time of writing.
