OpenAI and Reddit announced a new partnership Thursday to bring the social media platform's popular content to ChatGPT.
This mutually beneficial agreement will help Reddit further diversify its revenue streams.
“OpenAI will bring enhanced Reddit content to ChatGPT and new products to help users discover and engage with the Reddit community,” the companies said in a joint statement.
According to the announcement, OpenAI will also have access to Reddit's Data API, which will allow the company's AI tools to “better understand and present content on Reddit, especially regarding recent topics.”
Meanwhile, Reddit will gain a new advertising partner in OpenAI. The transaction amount was not disclosed.
According to Reuters, Reddit shares soared $12 in extended trading on the news.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who owns a significant stake in Reddit, already received a windfall when the company went public in March. Thursday's announcement confirmed Altman's status as a shareholder and confirmed that the partnership was led by OpenAI's COO and approved by the company's independent board of directors.
