Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 AI glasses launch in India with 3K video and Hindi language support

Ray-Ban’s second generation smart glasses, developed in partnership with Meta, are now available in India. Priced from ₹39,900 onwards, the Ray-Ban Meta (2nd generation) glasses introduce upgraded imaging hardware, improved battery performance, Hindi interaction, and new AI features aimed at making hands-free computing more practical in daily life.

The launch follows a global rollout earlier this year and builds on the positive reception of the first generation Ray-Ban x Meta collaboration, which combined classic eyewear design with discreet camera and voice control features. The latest version focuses on clearer content capture and extended usage, underscoring Meta’s attempt to position smart glasses as a reliable alternative to smartphones for certain tasks.

The new model records video in 3K Ultra HD with an ultra-wide high dynamic range, significantly more than its predecessor. Mehta said the glasses are designed to handle bright scenes, action shots, and low-light situations with more detail. Additional camera modes such as hyperlapse and slow-motion will be available via software updates.

Battery life has also been extended. The glasses can last up to 8 hours of continuous use, and the charging case can provide up to 48 hours of additional power. Fast charging will bring the battery to 50% in about 20 minutes.

Design-wise, the Ray-Ban Meta Generation 2 continues familiar silhouettes like the Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner frame. This year’s lineup includes new seasonal finishes like Shiny Cosmic Blue, Mystic Violet, and Asteroid Grey, as well as limited editions.

Beyond hardware, Meta positions AI as a core layer of its smart glasses strategy. Users can say “Hey Meta” to launch Assistant and enable features ranging from setting reminders and asking factual questions to composing messages. The new Conversation Focus mode aims to enhance voice clarity in noisy environments. This is an issue that affected previous versions.

For the Indian market, full Hindi dialogue has been significantly added, allowing users to naturally converse with the assistant while performing tasks such as taking photos, recording videos, controlling audio playback, and dictating responses.

Meta has also started introducing celebrity AI voices, with Deepika Padukone joining its global roster of assistant voice models. The company says these voices are trained to mimic the intonation of natural spoken language, making interactions feel more conversational.

Another feature currently being tested could push the glasses into more everyday use. It’s UPI Lite payment. Users simply look at the QR code and say “Meta, scan and pay” to initiate a transaction. Payments are processed through a user’s WhatsApp-linked bank account, enabling touch-free transactions in stores and public spaces. Meta has not yet confirmed when this feature will be fully rolled out.

The success of second-generation models will depend on whether Indian consumers see value in hands-free AI interactions and whether smart glasses can finally break out of niche appeal and enter the mainstream.
