ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mohammed Shebaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasized that the government should benefit from internationally renowned experts for the effective use of artificial intelligence and modern technology in agriculture.
Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif asked relevant authorities to present a comprehensive plan of action to boost agricultural production and introduce domestic agricultural reforms.
He chaired the review meeting on performance and ongoing reform in the agricultural sector.
“Improved agricultural productivity, added value and increased agricultural exports are top priority for the government,” the prime minister said.
He directed to present a comprehensive short- and long-term action plan for modern farm machinery, high-quality seeds, crop geographical plans, and the provision of simple loans to farmers.
To increase the yield per acre, the Prime Minister has directed the Agricultural Research Centre to be more effective.
He further directed that contemporary research would be secured through public-private partnerships at the Agricultural Research Center.

He also directed that an action plan be presented for the development of small and medium-sized agricultural industries to allow for the addition of value of agricultural goods and to enhance export-enabled products.
To promote the cultivation of profitable crops and to make Pakistan self-sufficient in food security, the Prime Minister directed that all necessary guidance and support be provided to farmers.
To mitigate the negative effects of climate change, he directed support for farmers to adopt climate-resistant species and modern agricultural methods.
Continuing in view of rainfall patterns and other changes in climate change, the Prime Minister directed that a comprehensive plan for cotton cultivation in new appropriate regions should be prepared, especially after detailed consultations with the state government in Sindh and Balochistan.
He also called for research and planning to incorporate biofuels into the country's energy mix.
The Prime Minister directed that a comprehensive plan of action for further agricultural reform would soon be presented.
