from now on planet Imaging satellites include: NVIDIAPlanet said Monday that it will use the Nvidia Jetson edge AI platform for its Pelican 2 satellite, due to launch later this year. Nvidia develops AI chips, systems and software, and recently reached a market capitalization of $3 billion.
Planet said it will be one of the first companies to adapt NVIDIA Jetson graphics processing units (GPUs) for space use and deploy them on Earth observation satellites, which the company said will provide intelligent imagery and faster insights for its customers.
Pelican 2 is Upcoming Pelican Constellationis an upgrade to Planet's SkySat satellite constellation and is designed to provide resolution of up to 30cm. Planet launched its first Pelican technology demo last year.
“Robust datasets power AI, and Planet is fully committed to the latest advancements happening in this AI revolution, from enhancing satellite technology to extracting rapid insights from imagery data,” said Kiruthika Devaraj, vice president of avionics and spacecraft at Planet. “This collaboration is about providing answers to our customers in near real-time from orbit.”
