Pinterest announced plans to invest $4 billion in Amazon Web Services by 2031. This is the company’s largest infrastructure investment in its history. The deal expands on a partnership that began in 2010 and is designed to support Pinterest’s next phase of growth in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud infrastructure.
The visual discovery platform, which serves more than 600 million monthly users worldwide, plans to leverage AWS technologies such as Trainium and Graviton chips to train and run AI models at scale. These models power Pinterest’s visual search, recommendation system, and personalized discovery experience to help users find inspiration, shop, plan projects, and explore ideas across a wide range of interests.
Pinterest has increasingly integrated AI into its platform through innovations such as its unique Taste Graph, advanced recommendation system, multimodal AI models, and the recently released Pinterest Assistant. The assistant brings multi-turn conversational discovery to Pinterest’s visual search experience through an optimized vision language model.
Under the expanded partnership, Pinterest plans to deploy AWS Trainium to host and operate large-scale language models and vision language models that power personalized recommendations and AI-assisted discovery. The company is also increasing its use of AWS Graviton processors, which already power about a third of Pinterest’s computing infrastructure.
Beyond AI development, this agreement will support broader modernization efforts across Pinterest’s technology stack. The company is moving from a traditional EC2-based environment to a Kubernetes-based architecture built on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). Pinterest expects this transition to improve operational efficiency, platform reliability, and developer productivity as we continue to scale globally.
The companies said the partnership will provide Pinterest with compute flexibility, infrastructure efficiency and hardware options to accelerate innovation in both consumer experience and ad performance.
