Beverage giant PepsiCo is deploying artificial intelligence (AI) across its operations in China and beyond to improve efficiency, said Ang Tse, head of the company’s Asia-Pacific region.
Tse said the company leverages AI in areas such as precision agriculture, manufacturing management and consumer analytics, allowing it to expand production capacity without proportionally increasing headcount. Still, PepsiCo is hiring as it opens new factories in China, she added.
PepsiCo is also targeting high-quality, nutritious products that blend local ingredients in line with Chinese culinary traditions while reducing sugar and sodium. He said the company sources 95% of its raw materials locally and takes commodity hedging to reduce geopolitical and cost pressures.
In January, PepsiCo announced a multi-year partnership with Siemens and Nvidia to leverage advanced technologies, including AI, to transform factory and supply chain operations. The company said at the time that it planned to use Siemens’ so-called digital twin technology to simulate and optimize the facility before making any physical changes. bloomberg
