The module, launched this fall, will begin amid concerns about the need for students to acquire AI skills along with concerns about misuse in education.
“Educators say it will help guide students through the ethical use of AI in courses to promote learning and maintain academic integrity,” explains Tom AP Simon, president of Pearson Higher Education and Virtual Learning.
“These modules tackle educators' concerns head on, and students prepare to use AI to thrive in schools and in the workforce. They are part of our broader commitment to teaching AI, personalizing learning with AI and applying it responsibly in society.”
The AI Literacy Module is available across more than 170 MyLab and Masters courses, across subjects in STEM, Business, Health Professionals, and Humanities. The short modules are designed to support real-world applications that cover topics such as how AI validates the results generated and how to properly cite AI output.
The module will be available in the US and will have a global title selection. Learners who complete the module will gain credit through Pearson badges recognized by the university and employer. Those who complete all three modules will receive an AI literacy capstone badge.
“The modules are great, allowing students to absorb information in bite-sized pieces,” says Addsmiesse, a professor at the University of Alabama. “It contains many of the terminology and is well defined for students.”
