New Delhi: Pakistani propaganda accounts are sharing digitally altered videos of Army Chief of Staff Upendra Dwivedi. In the video, he can be heard talking about the custodial death of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
However, the fact-finding wing of the PIB called the video a fabrication and the Army Chief of Staff clarified that he had not made any such statements. PIB also said that the purpose of such videos is to spread misinformation and undermine confidence in the Indian Army.
PIB also shared a link to the actual video and called on people to be careful, refrain from sharing or engaging with unverified content, and rely only on official and reliable sources for accurate information.
Earlier in the day, a Pakistani propaganda account on microblogging website X had shared a digitally altered video of President Drupadi Murmu with false claims.
The fake video showed the president speaking about extremism in India, curtailing freedoms, weakening secularism and threats to minorities. However, PIB’s fact-finding wing confirmed that the video was fake and said that the President of India had not made any such statement.
PIB shared the original clip of the speech alongside the fake clip and also provided a YouTube link to the full speech. The President’s speech was part of the Constitution Day program held in the historic Central Hall of the Old Parliament House.
