As organizations move from isolated pilots to enterprise-wide deployments of generative and agent AI, they unlock transformative benefits in innovation and productivity.
However, mainstream adoption poses new challenges related to cost containment, workforce adaptation, governance, and sustainability.
Utilizing AI Value: Unlocking Scalable BenefitsCapgemini Research Institute's Annual Research Series on AI Technologies explores strategies for how organizations can take responsibility, ethically and effectively expand AI implementation. The survey summary is based on findings from a global survey of 1,100 leaders from organizations with annual revenues of over $1 billion in 15 countries. The key findings are as follows:
- Currently, AI adoption is mainstreamThis has skyrocketed from 6% in 2023 to 30% in 2025. Today, 93% of organizations survey or enable GEN AI capabilities.
- AI agents have achieved status14% of organizations implement them partially or at full scale, and 23% run pilots. Of organizations that are already scaling AI agents, nearly 45% are piloting or scaling multi-agent systems.
- AI has evolved from a tool to a teammate. Six in 10 organizations plan to integrate AI as augmentation or autonomous collaborators within next year, but most are not well prepared for this shift.
- Trust and governance are behind: 71% of organizations say they can't completely trust autonomous AI agents for their use of enterprises. 46% have governance policies in place, but compliance remains low.
- The environmental impact of AI is being examined. Although only one in five organizations is measured, sustainability measures such as using smaller, task-specific models have gained traction.
The new research brief provides actionable insights for business and technology leaders across industries and capabilities. To deliver business value, take responsibility for and effectively expand AI, organizations must:
- Architects for scalability Redesign the AI integration process and adopt “platformization” for enterprise-wide deployment.
- Strengthen trust through governance By defining a clear scope for AI implementation, establishing sensual governance with ethical surveillance, and enhancing data management and traceability.
- Design Human-AI collaboration models Through prioritizing reskills and cultural transformation, and adapting hybrid team workflows and performance metrics.
