On Wednesday, Openai and Common Sense Media launched a free online course called “ChatGpt Foundations for K-12 Educators,” helping teachers learn how to take responsibility for AI and effectively implement it.
“We are in the early stages of adopting AI in the K-12, and we will work together to enable this technology to enable teachers and improve student learning outcomes.”
The release covers courses that take less than an hour to complete, including data privacy impacts, ethical use, the basics of AI, and ideas on how educators can leverage AI in their classrooms. Designed to be simple and accessible, it helps educators understand the fundamentals of AI beyond ChatGpt.
The company shares that the course has already been piloted in 12 school districts and its early results are promising, with 98% of participants sharing that the course provided new ideas and strategies that could be applied to their work. There are already several AI tools for students, including university-level reading and study help.
