Today's News Digest: OpenAI Inks Data Deal with Reddit; Sony warns AI giants against using its artists. Amazon Prime Video becomes the largest ad-supported streaming platform in the US
OpenAI has now signed a new deal with social giant Reddit. AI leaders use Reddit data to train ChatGPT and other new products. You'll have access to Reddit's Data API, which will allow you to leverage the platform's “real-time, structured, unique content” – user posts and replies. The partnership will enable the social platform to offer new AI-powered features to its users. Additionally, OpenAI will be an advertising partner of Reddit.
At the intersection of AI and music, Sony is warning engineers and streamers around the world about the use of AI by its artists. Sony Music has sent letters to more than 700 AI developers and music streaming services around the world, including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, prohibiting AI developers from using its music. It also highlights that Sony is opting out of text or data mining of its content for any purpose, including training his AI systems. The music group also sent a separate letter to streaming platforms, suggesting they adopt “best practice” measures aimed at protecting artists and songwriters from AI developers. The letter asks that you update your terms of service to clearly state that content mining or training is not permitted.
Amazon Prime Video has become the largest ad-supported streaming platform in the US, the tech giant announced. According to his SVP of Prime Video, Mike Hopkins, the service's average advertising reach reaches 115 million monthly users in the U.S. alone. To compare with other major companies in the streaming industry, Netflix reported earlier this year that the number of monthly active users of its advertising tier is 23 million worldwide.
