OpenAI and AWS expand their partnership to offer a limited preview of OpenAI models, Codex, and Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents to AWS customers.
This arrangement will give AWS customers access to OpenAI tools within their existing AWS environments, including Amazon Bedrock. Intended for companies that want to build and run AI systems within their current security, compliance, and procurement processes.

OpenAI’s coding product suite, Codex, will also be available through AWS. More than 4 million people use Codex every week to write code, describe systems, refactor applications, generate tests, update legacy software, and more.
Its use has also expanded beyond coding to document-related tasks such as research, analysis, summarizing source material, creating summaries, slide decks, and spreadsheets.
Under the new arrangement, organizations will be able to run Codex using OpenAI models delivered through Amazon Bedrock. Companies with AWS commits and Bedrock access can start using Codex by configuring Bedrock as a provider.
Initial access includes the Codex CLI, Codex desktop app, and Visual Studio Code extensions through the Bedrock API. All customer data is processed by Amazon Bedrock, and eligible customers can count their Codex usage toward their AWS cloud commitments.

AWS and OpenAI are also introducing Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI. This service is aimed at companies that want to deploy agents in their AWS environments without building all the surrounding infrastructure themselves.
