Today’s smart cybercriminals are using AI to alter the audio content of videos and create convincing deepfake scams, and this problem is likely to grow even further, especially in an election year.
To combat these threats, McAfee collaborated with Intel to launch an AI-powered deepfake detector. The tool, formerly known as Project Mockingbird, aims to identify and notify users when the audio in a video may have been generated or manipulated by AI.
McAfee's Deepfake Detector employs cutting-edge AI technology, including a Transformer-based deep neural network model, so it only works on systems with Intel Core Ultra processors. According to McAfee, AI PC's NPU improves app performance by up to 300%, enabling local deepfake inference and eliminating the need to send sensitive user data to the cloud.
There are no plans to install it on older Intel PCs.
Steve Grobman, McAfee's Chief Technology Officer We need the latest AI to win.”
“By leveraging Intel's Core Ultra processor technology and its NPU, we can offer consumers the most advanced and powerful generative AI deepfake detection capabilities without sacrificing performance or privacy. Detection is performed locally without having to send files to the cloud, giving you greater peace of mind and control over your data.”
Carla Rodriguez, Vice President and General Manager of Ecosystem Partner Enabling at Intel, added: Facilitate detection of malicious and misleading deepfakes while providing optimal performance and privacy. ”
McAfee's Deepfake Detector will soon be available for English video detection. It will be expanded to other languages in due course.
We asked McAfee if there were any plans to bring this tool to older PCs, and a spokesperson told us: “McAfee Deepfake Detector is not launched on older Intel PCs. Features described include leveraging the NPU of Intel Core Ultra processors. We are committed to addressing the real needs of today's consumers. We're proud to partner with Intel, another innovative and consumer-focused technology leader focused on delivering solutions that help customers, but this is not an exclusive partnership.'' For those who haven't, this could be good news.
