Nvidia, a leading company in the development of artificial intelligence computing, has tapped a Montreal company to build AI servers in Canada.

Ciara Technologies, a division of Hypertec Group, announced Thursday that it has been officially named the country’s first Canadian Nvidia OEM partner manufacturing system.

Through Ciara, Hypertec will manufacture Nvidia-certified AI servers, providing businesses, researchers and public institutions with a “secure domestic infrastructure” option, the company said.

“AI infrastructure is now strategic infrastructure,” Hypertec Group CEO Simon Ahdoot said in a news release.

“This breakthrough marks a turning point for Canada. We are building the infrastructure that will define Canada’s future. As NVIDIA’s first Canadian OEM partner, we are strengthening Canada’s innovation, expansion and global competitiveness with homegrown, secure, high-performance systems.”

Hypertec will have access to Nvidia’s engineering resources, reference architectures, integration frameworks, and future technology roadmap. The companies said the initiative will enable billions of dollars worth of new economic activity and spur the creation of high-skilled jobs in several related sectors.

“Canada has one of the most advanced AI ecosystems in the world,” said Eric Dahan, NVIDIA Canada Country Director, in a release.

“As NVIDIA’s first Canadian OEM manufacturing partner, Hypertec enables local production of NVIDIA acceleration systems, driving innovation across industries from healthcare, financial services and agriculture to advanced manufacturing, energy and technology.”
