Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has pushed back against growing concerns that artificial intelligence will destroy jobs, calling the idea “false” and adding that “software engineers are busier than ever.” In a recent interview at Stanford University, the head of NVIDIA said that while AI is changing the nature of work, it is not necessarily eliminating the need for workers. Huang argued that AI tools are helping people work faster and at scale, while also creating demand for new ideas and skills. He used examples from healthcare and software engineering to explain why he believes AI will create more jobs, not fewer, over time.“First of all, I don’t think talk of AI destroying jobs is going to help America,” Huang said. “That’s just a lie.”

In an interview, Huang referenced a prediction made several years ago by one of the AI pioneers, arguing that radiology will become obsolete as AI automates the reading of medical scans. According to Huang, AI has transformed radiology as predicted.“The exact opposite has been an increase in the number of radiologists,” Huang says.He explained that while AI is automating many tasks, hospitals are able to process more patients, perform more scans, and improve medical services, increasing the demand for radiologists.“We need more radiologists than ever before, but we don’t have enough,” he added.
“Software engineers are busier than ever”
Jensen Huang said the same trend is now happening in software engineering. “Someone said AI was going to destroy all software engineering jobs,” he said. “At the end of the day, we now have agent AI inside Nvidia. It’s everywhere, and every software engineer is using it.”According to Huang, developers who know how to interact with AI systems are becoming increasingly valuable within enterprises. “Software engineers who know how to use AI, know how to use agent systems, and operate agent systems are the most popular and most successful,” he said.Huang also said that AI tools are enabling engineers to complete coding tasks faster, increasing the pressure to produce more products and ideas. He previously explained that engineers spend most of their time writing code by hand. Now, AI can generate code quickly, allowing teams to move faster and tackle larger projects.“You have an idea. It doesn’t take long to write code. Now, all of a sudden, the company is waiting for your next idea,” Huang said.

Huang acknowledged that some jobs could still be affected by automation, especially roles where tasks rarely change. But historically, technological revolutions have created new kinds of jobs, he said.“I believe that ultimately more jobs will be created,” Huang said. “At the end of this industrial revolution, there will be more people working than at the beginning.”
