HMD Global has launched a series of new Nokia feature phones (also known as dumb phones). This would be ideal for those who want to spend some time away from the dangers of constant smartphone use, with the exception of a dedicated AI button in the center of the handset. Nokia, you only had one job to do!
Nokia 210 4G, Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition, Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition, and Nokia 200 4G arrive with a unique AI assistant called Sikey AI that can simplify settings such as reminders, alarms, and turning on the flashlight. You must pay additional fees to use it after the initial 6-month trial period.
Some of these items may be useful in an emergency, but don’t they go against the spirit of owning a feature phone in the first place? People are intentionally buying “dumb phones,” which don’t require artificial intelligence, as devices that they can take on weekend camping trips while leaving their iPhones at home.
Nokia explains: “Using your phone has never been easier with the built-in Assistant. Press the dedicated AI Assistant button to tell you what’s helpful. You can turn on your flashlight, open the rear camera, set reminders and alarm clocks, and call anyone in your contacts, all with the power of your voice. If you have any questions, it can help, too.”
Excellent, thank you. It’s not necessary, but thank you.
Featuring the classic Nokia candy bar design with a T9 numeric keyboard, the handset runs on the S30+ operating system and is powered by a small 1,450-piece battery designed to maintain a small screen and light workload. It is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and supports USB-C charging. It has just 64MB of RAM (no RAMagedon issues) and the battery (13 days of standby time) is removable.
The Nokia 210 4G and 200 4G have a 2.4-inch display, while the Nokia 215 4G 2nd edition and 235 4G 2nd edition have a 2.8-inch panel. All four have a 3.5mm headphone jack and a front-facing camera. The 215/235 phone also has a basic rear camera. At least in this series, video calling is unlocked for the first time on a Nokia feature phone, but you have to do it through the Xpress Chat app available on Nokia phones, or via the Play Store or App Store.
Nokia has not yet revealed the pricing and availability of these phones.
