Netflix is adding AI and vertical video feed to its app

AI Video & Visuals

Netflix plans to launch a TikTok-like video feed within the app later this month, along with AI-powered content recommendations.

According to tech crunchNetflix has been testing vertical video feeds since the middle of last year. This feature aims to allow users to discover a current catalog of shows and movies, as well as video podcasts. The company also plans to further its use of AI recommendations after launching a ChatGPT-based search feature last year.

Netflix co-CEO Gregory Peters said during the company’s first quarter conference call that Netflix’s primary goal has always been personalization, adding that new technology can improve personalization and its rate of improvement.

To ramp up its AI efforts, Netflix has acquired Ben Affleck’s AI production company, Interpositive. In addition to that, Netflix also said it wants to use AI to improve its ad suite, enabling customization and new ad formats that can generate better profits for advertisers and Netflix.

It remains to be seen how these gains will impact customers, as Netflix reported a 16.2% increase in revenue to US$12.25 billion (approximately CA$16.75 billion) in Q1 2026. However, some of that is due to last month’s subscription price increase.
