Motorola Razr+ leak reveals telephoto camera and more

AI Video & Visuals

Ahead of its debut next week, new leaks have revealed that the next Motorola Razr+ (2024) will upgrade its camera with a telephoto lens, improve water resistance, and of course add AI.

Previous leaks about Motorola's upcoming Razr+ have revealed little about meaningful changes for the foldable flip phone — the budget model will likely feature a full-size cover display, while the flagship model will likely just get beefed-up specs — but a leaked, supposedly official video does offer some interesting tidbits.

The video, shared by @MysteryLupin on Twitter/X, starts off by showing off the Cover Display again, and while the bezels appear to be smaller this time around, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference.

Secondly, it claims to have improved waterproofing, touting “underwater protection.” A disclaimer at the bottom of the video mentions IPX8 resistance, but this is a mixed review of the improvements. The previous model touted IP52 dust and water resistance, and splashes of water were no problem, but when completely submerged, did it One thing that stands out is the dust resistance. Many foldable smartphones don't have dust resistance. Samsung, for example, only offers waterproofing. IPX8 is comparable to Samsung's foldable smartphones, but it's unclear whether dust will be an issue as a result.

The video moves on to the cameras. At a hardware level, it's revealed that one of the cameras will offer telephoto zoom. The previous Razr+ had a standard camera and an ultra-wide camera, as most dual-camera devices have chosen to do these days. It's very unusual to see a telephoto camera on a folding flip phone, so this is a welcome addition in the new Motorola Razr+, but it's unclear if the ultra-wide camera has been sacrificed.

And, of course, there's the AI thing: the camera is apparently “AI-powered,” and the device will have “Moto AI.” Motorola has previously included AI features in some of its international releases, but this will be the first time it's done so in the U.S.

Motorola is set to release a new foldable smartphone, the Razr, next week.
