Home Design, in Mary Street, said the situation had deterred some staff from taking part in regular promotional clips posted on social media.

The store, which is a “one-stop shop” for everything from tools and bedding to household goods and electronics, took to Facebook to ask for clarification on the issue, citing growing confusion.

Home Design asked for respect from its customers and insisted that the doctored video was not genuine.

The Home Design team said in a Facebook message: “We are aware of that and we ask that all comments be respectful.

“AI-generated deepfake videos are on the market for our staff, so please be careful with these types of videos.”

Mima, a member of the Home Design team, provided further insight into the situation, explaining that she has been made aware of these doctored clips and knows that their content is false.

Our store will continue to focus on customer service.

She said the purpose of their authentic videos is simply to share the best deals and promotions.

But she warned that deepfake videos are discouraging employees from appearing in such promotional clips.

Mima said, “We would like to continue, but if deepfake videos continue to be generated, we will not be able to continue producing these videos.”

“It’s discouraging our staff from wanting to make it.”
