WhatsApp is introducing a new set of features focused on calling, media sharing, and AI-powered tools to give users more ways to communicate as the holiday season approaches. This update brings changes across calls, meta AI, statuses, channels, and desktop chat.
WhatsApp's latest developments include missed call messages, a tool that allows users to leave short audio or video notes when a call is missed. This feature works directly from the call screen and provides a quick way to follow up without switching to chat by linking messages to missed calls.

Meta AI gets new image and animation tools
Meta AI within WhatsApp now uses an upgraded image generation model that includes features from Flux and Midjourney. The platform says these improvements will allow users to create clearer, more detailed visuals, especially for seasonal messages. Users can also turn photos into short clips and animate them by following prompts typed directly into the chat. This addition eliminates the need for a separate editing app and makes it easy to create short animated greetings.

Missed call messages for voice and video calls
WhatsApp has added missed call messages, a feature that allows callers to leave a quick audio or video note when you miss a call. This note links to the original call attempt and can be sent with a single tap. The company says the update acts as a modern alternative to voicemail and provides a way for users to share updates directly when real-time calls cannot connect.
Group video calling has also been improved. WhatsApp now highlights the person you're talking to, making it easier to understand the conversation. Voice chat allows for reactions such as “cheers,” allowing users to respond without interrupting the discussion. These responses emerge during the session and allow for rapid and informal feedback between participants.

New tools for media, status, and channels
The desktop version of WhatsApp includes a dedicated media tab. This section organizes documents, links, and media shared between chats and makes it easier to find old files. The app also has improved link previews, allowing you to see clearer cards of web pages shared in chats.
New features will also be added to status updates. Users can add music lyrics, place interactive stickers, and include questions in their posts. Contacts can respond directly to these question stickers, creating more two-way interaction within your statuses. Channels also display question prompts, allowing admins to collect quick answers from followers. WhatsApp says the feature will help creators and organizations collect feedback during ongoing events and updates.
