The US tech giant plans to expand its AI infrastructure, digital skills and innovation across the developing world by 2030.

New Delhi, India: microsoft announced that it plans to invest in approximately 5 billion dollars By the end of the decade, we aim to strengthen artificial intelligence capabilities in countries in the Global South. The presentation was held at the following venue. AI Impact Summit in New Delhiexecutives from leading AI companies met with world leaders.
The purpose of investment is Bridging the widening AI divide, strengthening infrastructure, developing digital skills, supporting community-driven innovation, and improving multilingual AI capabilities. Microsoft highlighted that AI adoption in developed countries is nearly twice as high as in developing regions, and warned that unequal access could exacerbate economic disparities if not addressed quickly.
Last year, Microsoft invested in 8 billion dollars Data center infrastructure serving the Global South ( India, Mexico, Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, Middle East. The company also aims to expand internet access to underserved communities and connect 250 million people around the world, including 100 million people in Africa.
Microsoft plans training as part of its Elevate program 2 million teachers and 8 equipment 1 million students with AI skills. Last year, the company 2 billion dollars Grants, technology donations, training initiatives and more to schools and nonprofits in developing markets.
Microsoft also revealed plans to improve AI performance in underrepresented languages by investing in language data and assessment tools, particularly across Africa and Asia. Data from the summit will contribute to the upcoming Global AI Adoption Index led by the World Bank.
The company emphasized that achieving these goals will require strong partnerships with local governments, organizations, and developers, building on India’s rapidly growing community of 24 million developers on GitHub.
