Meta announced that it is expanding the range of real-time content available through its Meta AI assistant by integrating news and other media from international publishers.
According to the company, Meta AI will now provide users with broader access to timely information, including the latest global news, entertainment coverage, lifestyle articles, and other real-time content across Meta apps and devices. When a user asks a Meta AI news-related question, the assistant pulls information from various sources, displays related articles, and displays a link that allows the user to visit the publisher’s website for more information.
The company said the expansion is aimed at helping people discover timely and relevant information tailored to their interests while driving traffic to partner news organizations.
As part of this initiative, Meta has partnered with several international publishers including News Corp, Le Figaro, Prisa and Süddeutsche Zeitung. These partnerships allow Meta AI to reference and link to articles from these news outlets when generating responses to news-related queries.
Mehta said the integration is aimed at improving the assistant’s ability to keep up with real-time events and present information from a broader perspective. The company noted that delivering accurate and timely updates on rapidly evolving events remains a challenge for AI systems, and the aim is to make the assistant more responsive and relevant by integrating more news sources.
The company added that it plans to continue expanding the range of content sources and topics available through Meta AI. Mehta said the goal is to offer something that caters to a wide range of interests, as more people use assistants for activities such as exploring topics, generating creative ideas, editing media and learning about current events.
