After a shaky public preview, Microsoft has upgraded its ChatGPT-based Bing AI chatbot with improved personalized local recommendations and more. In a blog post, the company revealed that it had received feedback about poor local search query performance on Bing. For example, when searching for everything from restaurants to doctors “near me”. Microsoft hopes the enhancements will correct the direction of chatbots as the AI-enabled search engine battles competitors such as Bard, Google’s greenfield AI chatbot.
As part of the update, Microsoft has made a few more enhancements that may give Bing a temporary advantage. The number of queries, or “turns,” that can be captured in a single conversation has been increased from 15 to 20. Ten sessions per day are allowed, providing a maximum limit of 200 total turns per day. The company has also integrated image and video search capabilities into its search chatbot. This pops up as an answer card that allows the user to ‘see more’ for details.
Since its debut, ChatGPT-enabled Bing has attracted more users to Microsoft’s search engine, fueled by public interest in new AI technologies. Microsoft’s move likely forced Google to release his Bard AI prematurely, as competition has increased, and neither wants to miss this golden AI-enabled opportunity.
