Meta is rolling out a new feature that lets you generate AI content using Instagram’s public posts and Reels, and it’s turned on by default.

If you have an Instagram account that is not set to private, there is a setting that allows anyone to use your images and videos to generate content on the “Meta” AI. This option was added to support Meta’s new image generation model, Muse Image. Muse Image is deployed across Instagram, WhatsApp, and “Meta” AI to pull images from Instagram accounts with just an @mention. From the Muse Image description by Meta:
You can also @-mention Instagram accounts in the Meta AI app to include specific Instagram profiles in your images. Whether you’re designing custom event invitations, mocking up collaborative creative concepts, or generating personalized graphics, tag your username and Meta AI will use your public photos to build post-ready visuals.
Instagram’s help page explains that content from your public Instagram account can be used to create content with AI features, and you won’t receive a notification if someone uses your content to create an AI image.
If your account is public: Anyone on Instagram can reuse all or some of your shared Reels, feed videos, and photos after reuse is enabled. Reels, feed videos, and photos can be reused with features like remixes, sequences, templates, stickers, and more. Additionally, with Meta’s AI capabilities, you may be able to create content using your Instagram content.
‘Meta’ opts in all public Instagram accounts by default, but there is also an option to turn off AI permissions. In the Instagram app settings,[共有と再利用]Scroll to[ユーザーが Instagram および「メタ」の AI 機能を使用してコンテンツを作成および再利用できるようにする]is under[投稿]and[リール]toggle off.
If you don’t want people using your content to create AI images, turn the setting off now. This is because AI content created before you turn it off will not be deleted. Muse Image is still being rolled out, as is the toggle to turn off the use of AI. The opt-out option may not be immediately visible to you. Private Instagram profiles are not included in Muse Image.
Meta plans to soon expand Muse Image to Facebook and Messenger, allowing advertisers and agencies to create content using Muse Image in the coming weeks. Meta is also working on the Muse Video feature.
