Meta According to the New York Times, it has established a new AI lab and has introduced Alexandr Wang, founder and CEO of Startup Scale AI.

The New York Times said on Tuesday that the lab will pursue a concept known as “super intelligence.” This is an AI system that surpasses human intelligence. According to a Bloomberg report, Meta is undergoing high consultation to invest in scale AI of over $10 billion.

Scale AI declined to comment. Meta did not respond to CNBC's request for comment.

The reported research lab is Meta's latest initiative to gain an edge in the highly competitive AI development space. Meta has poured billions of dollars into the technology, and has announced plans to spend up to $65 billion in capital expenditures this year on AI infrastructure.

Later last month, Meta announced that AI assistants will support 1 billion monthly active users across the company's app family. In February, CNBC reported that Meta debuted its standalone Meta AI app in the second quarter and was planning to test a paid subscription service similar to rival chat apps such as Openai's ChatGPT.

Meta's shares rose about 1% on Tuesday.
