Meta unveils new AI models developed by expensive new superintelligence lab

AI News

Meta announced its latest artificial intelligence model on Wednesday. This is the first time since the company spent a lot of money building a team to better compete with AI rivals.

This new model, known as Muse Spark, was created by Meta Superintelligence Labs. Meta Superintelligence Labs is a team of high-priced AI leaders and developers brought together last year from other AI companies and led by Scale AI co-founder and CEO Alexandr Wang. Mr. Wang joined the Meta AI team after Meta agreed to make a $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI.

The model, known internally as Avacodo, is currently powering Meta AI apps and Meta AI websites, and will soon power Meta apps WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and AI Glasses. Mehta called the new model “an early data point on our trajectory,” adding that larger models are in development.

“This initial model is small and fast by design, but powerful enough to reason about complex questions in science, mathematics, and health,” Meta said in a statement. “This is a strong foundation, and the development of the next generation has already begun.”

Meta is making increasingly large investments to compete in the ever-evolving AI landscape, creating a “superintelligence team” to work towards making artificial general intelligence (AGI) a reality. The release of the Meta Muse comes on the heels of the disappointing results of the Llama model that the company released last year.

Meta is betting big on AI to catch up and catch up with other AI builders. Google overtook its rivals in November with its Gemini 3 model, showing off its superior coding and research capabilities. OpenAI quickly followed the GPT-5 update.
