(Bloomberg/Isabella Ward and Natalie Lang) – Behind almost every major artificial intelligence startup, you'll find the tech giants that will drive their rise.
Microsoft Corp., Alphabet Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. have invested billions in top artificial intelligence startups, supercharged the fast-growing AI sector and founded old security guards for technology companies as the kingmaker of a new generation of business. Meta Platforms Inc. is planning to join Fray. The social media giant is in talks to make a multi-billion dollar investment in artificial intelligence startup scale AI, Bloomberg News reported over the weekend.
The transaction attracts a significant percentage of scrutiny. Governments, including the US, UK and the European Union, are considering some of these investments and partnerships, and some companies have received requests for how such arrangements will affect the competitive landscape of AI development.
Microsoft is undoubtedly the company that touched on the race among tech giants, partnered with major AI startups, and paved the way for Openai with a $13 billion bet. Salesforce Inc. led the round by hugging her face at a $4.5 billion valuation. Alphabet and Amazon.com have invested billions in Openai rival humanity. And Nvidia Corp. appears to support almost every AI startup.
For AI companies, these deals with Big Tech can serve as a critical lifeline. Building large language models is extremely expensive and computationally intensive. This is the technology that supports AI chatbots like chatgpt. The tech giant is one of the only companies with the infrastructure and funding to support these efforts.
