Meta Platforms, Inc., the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. has launched a new political action committee to support California candidates, supporting the Proterific Intelligence Policy and opposed strict regulations.
“As the hub for one of the world's leading AI companies, California's innovation economy has a major impact on America's economic growth, job creation and global competitiveness. However, Sacramento's regulatory environment will curb innovation, thwart AI progress and put California's technology leadership at risk.”
The new California Super PAC, which mobilizes economic transformation across California, is “focused on candidates who support candidates regardless of parties embracing policies that recognize California's important role in AI development and embrace policies that keep the world at the forefront of the global technology ecosystem,” the spokesman added.
Meta's new Pro-AI Super PAC is trending with competitors like Andreessen Horowitz, Airbnb and Uber, and the industry is facing braces due to tighter regulations amid the global arms race with China, the company told Fox Business.

More than 50 AI-related bills have been introduced in California so far this year, according to the state legislature's nonpartisan national conference.

Meta warned that these bills could slow the development of AI and limit its impact.
The new Super PAC supports California candidates along the company's technology policy platform by advocating for AI progress, parents determine the safety of their children's technology and promoting US technology leadership.
According to Meta, Super PAC is consistent with the company's ongoing efforts to select candidates to defend these issues.

Earlier this year, Newsom positioned California as a “global AI leader” and released a report advising AI's “viable guardrails.”
“As home to more than half of the world's top AI companies, our state has a unique responsibility to improve our communities, maintain economic control and lead the safe advancement of this industry in ways that this rapidly changing technology benefits the public interest,” Newsom said.

When contacted for comment, Newsom's office emphasized that the governor's enforcement actions would crack down on AI's deepfakes to prevent fraud from AI-generated robocalls.
Newsom's Office also highlighted the potential leadership of the 2028 presidential candidate on ethical and transparent AI development over the past few years.
“California has not become a national innovation hub by turning its back on new technologies, and we will continue to ensure that future growth will take responsibility and safely happen. The governor will take a balanced approach to ensure that as the AI industry continues to grow, we do so with the right guardrails to protect the public.”
