The project, called AI SmartCut, won a Silver Award in the Newsroom Transformation category for Best Innovation on Friday (May 26).

AI SmartCut, a custom AI solution developed by Mediacorp, Voice Interaction and Qvest, uses speech recognition and natural language processing to identify news video stories and interviews.

These are automatically compiled as individual news clips and entered into CNA’s content management system for easy publishing on CNA’s website, app and YouTube channel.

AI solutions will replace current labor-intensive processes, freeing up CNA editors for more value-added journalism. It also provides readers with a more media-rich experience when browsing her CNA articles.

Congratulating the CNA team on the global award, MediaCorp Editor-in-Chief Walter Fernandez said: “The Newsroom AI team has continued to innovate with technology partners around the world to design, build and adapt AI tools to improve workflow efficiency and eliminate mundane tasks. , provides and provides journalists with new capabilities in areas such as translation, text, audio, video and verification.

MediaCorp also won a silver award at the INMA Global Media Awards for the best use of the event to build a news brand for 8world’s Young Reporter News Challenge 2022.

In this initiative, 8World ran a contest to create a video news report for middle school students. This gives them a taste of journalism and is a core part of the Chinese news stations’ outreach to young audiences.
