US-based cybersecurity company McAfee has announced an enhancement to its AI-powered deepfake detection technology in collaboration with US chipmaker Intel. According to the company, McAfee Deepfake Detector leverages the enhanced neural processing units (NPUs) of Intel Core Ultra processors to run AI algorithms that detect synthetic content.

McAfee said the entire analysis and detection process happens on the device itself, and no personal data needs to be sent to the cloud for processing. According to the company, this process ensures user privacy while also increasing the performance of deepfake detection technology by 300%.

McAfee Deepfake Detector uses AI-based detection technology that includes a transformer-based “deep neural network” model. These technologies are specifically trained to detect and notify customers when audio in a video may be generated or manipulated by AI.

Commenting on the launch of the new deepfake detector, Steve Grobman, chief technology officer at McAfee, said: “In a world where we can no longer believe what we see, AI-generated deepfakes have made it easier than ever to tell the difference between real and fake. “It's become even more difficult, and consumers need deepfake detectors.” The latest AI to beat AI. “Together with Intel, we are taking a step further in delivering a seamless and robust customer experience. By leveraging Intel's Core Ultra processor technology and its NPU, we are leveraging Intel's Core Ultra processor technology and its NPU to deliver the most advanced and powerful generative AI.” “We can provide deepfake detection capabilities to consumers.” You get greater peace of mind and control over your data because detection happens locally, without having to send large files to the cloud for analysis, without compromising performance or privacy. ”

The company said McAfee Deepfake Detector will soon be available for English detection and will be rolled out to other languages in the coming months.

Earlier this month, Intel announced that it has over 500 AI models optimized for Core Ultra processors. Intel says AI models optimized for Core Ultra processors are available from common industry sources such as OpenVINO Model Zoo, Hugging Face, ONNX Model Zoo, and PyTorch.
