LeBron James reportedly sent a halt and assumed letter over AI video during her pregnancy.
LeBron James is opposed to abuse generated by AI. According to a report by 404 Media, the lawyer representing the NBA superstar has issued multiple ceasefires and assumed letters to creators who create James' disturbing deepfake videos. The legal move has led to Instagram removing some high-traffic accounts tied to offensive content.
“The creators of the AI tools and discordant communities that enabled people to create AI videos for the NBA stars say they received a letter of suspension and denial from an attorney representing LeBron James,” reported 404Media.
The rise of artificial intelligence has become an increasingly debated issue in today's media-driven world. It has many good uses, but there are also ways to exploit technology, and LeBron experienced it firsthand in countless fake videos (even one of the pregnant LeBron James) that emerge as a threat to his image and heritage.
“The well-known creators had gained millions of views on Instagram, which is creating videos generated by James and Steph Curry's AI,” writes 404Media. “These included a video that included Steph Curry, where AI-generated James was sexually assaulted by Diddy in prison, a video of James, a video of James imagined as a homeless person, a video of James showing his tongue and a video of James pregnant.”
The rise of artificial intelligence has created a new era of digital creativity, but it has opened the door to abuse. For LeBron, the downsides of Deepfark technology have become a fierce hit, with increasingly graphic and offensive videos threatening his image and legacy.
“At least three Instagram accounts that have won millions of opinions on James' unconsensual AI videos have been removed by Instagram. When asked by 404 Media if they received a suspension and imagination letter from James, Meta declined to comment.”
The stop and assumption order essentially means that the creators of these AI videos/images must stop using LeBron's face and likeness. Or it could lead to major legal action. You won't scrub anything already created and shared completely, but at least you should ensure that similar videos are not released.
Despite the escalating circumstances, Meta (the parent company of Instagram) refused to say whether he had received legal communications from LeBron's lawyers. Still, the platform has begun deleting problematic content and accounts, indicating it is responding to growing legal pressure. It remains to be seen how they intend to address the bigger issues of deepfakes generated by AI.
For now, LeBron is using his power to hold creators accountable. One takedown at a time. With a billion-dollar empire to protect him, he has the means to fight back. Unfortunately, not all victims of practice have that luxury.
