Layoff AWS employees described the cut as “cold and soulless.”

AI and ML Jobs

The prediction that Amazon.com CEO Andy Jassy's automation costs money for employment at the company has proven accurate with Amazon Web Services.

Amazon has checked Register Today, the job goes to several teams on AWS, but the company refused to provide numbers, or details of which teams were involved. I understand that about 100 people are at risk.

“After a thorough review of our organization, priorities and what we need to focus on what's going forward, we have made the difficult business decision to eliminate some roles across a particular team at AWS,” company spokesman Brad Glasser said in an email.

“We didn't downplay these decisions and are committed to supporting employees during the transition,” Glasser said in a cookie-cutter copy of the message that AWS received last year when it unbatched employees. “These decisions are necessary as we continue to invest, hire and optimize our resources to deliver innovation to our customers.”

An AWS spokesperson said that despite these layoffs, the overall staff will grow as business units have thousands of open roles.

A source familiar with AWS operations that requested anonymity said Register While most of the layoffs have influenced the roles of marketing and outreach, chattering on sites like Blind suggests that frontline support and people in other positions may have been affected as well.

Regardless of who was cut, we are said to have AWS not given any warnings to workers. The former employee described the process as “cold and soulless.” Because only unreviewed emails that announce their position has been eliminated are involved.

“From what we can convey, decision-making was primarily based on titles and high-level optics, rather than subtly understanding the actual overlap of roles, skills or responsibilities,” the employee argued.

Now-Ex AWS staff said AWS is committed to adopting generated AI as a way to “simplify operations and reduce staffing.”

Our sources feel that reducing jobs is “premature” as Amazon staff is almost unfamiliar with generative AI tools and not trained in technology. They also said Amazon's generation AI tools are not cutting edge.

“The lack of Amazon's excellent AI tech stack makes it difficult to keep up with people who can use more powerful models like this. [Chat]GPT, said AWS Insider.

Amazon claims it gives employees plenty of time to learn about AI tools and how to use them in their roles, and says many people are already using them effectively. As an example, the spokesman said that an internal Amazon developer saved collective time of over 450,000 people with manual technical surveys using one tool.

Register However, they have not received a record rejection that AI did not contribute to these layoffs.

Our sources also tell us that changes in AWS marketing may have contributed to the layoffs.

“AWS Marketing is in the middle of a migration to Adobe Managed Services,” the former staff member told us, adding that it is a “big departure” from AWS' previous internal management of such a process.

Amazon has denied that the latest layoffs have something to do with Adobe.

Amazon boss Andy Jassy sent a note last month, warning that Jobs would go to Amazon as the company implements more AI.

“We expect this to reduce the total workforce of the company. We expect to see greater efficiency gains through widespread use of AI within the company,” Jassy told staff. ®
