KT will partner with Kbro, Taiwan’s largest cable TV operator, to develop digital media and smart home services powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
The carrier announced Thursday that it has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kbro to bring its portfolio of media services and device technologies to the Taiwanese market.
Under the agreement, KT will introduce AI-driven products such as AI-powered smart home solutions, conversational voice recognition, AI-optimized user experience and user interface, and AI-powered content recommendations.
“This partnership combines KT’s strengths in media and AI technology with Kbro’s local platform capabilities to strengthen the competitiveness of AI-powered smart home and media services,” said Kim Chae-hee, executive vice president of KT’s media business unit.
“KT will continue to drive global expansion across telecommunications and media based on AI technology.”
The two companies will also collaborate on developing technologies and service models essential for smart home transformation, leveraging KT’s expertise in AI agents and AI-driven media services.
As part of the partnership, the company will launch an all-in-one soundbar set-top box in Taiwan with Harman Kardon speakers, Dolby Atmos surround sound technology, and access to global streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube.
In addition, KT will distribute original content in the country through local platforms including MyVideo, Taiwan’s leading content platform. They also plan to co-produce and localize content tailored to the Taiwanese market and carry out joint marketing campaigns.
Last year, KT announced the KT Media New Way strategy, pledging to invest 500 billion won ($340 million) by 2026 to strengthen its AI-powered media business and original content production, and opened an AI Studio Lab to apply AI technology to the entire content production workflow.
