Kong claims AI satirical video is blocked by government order

Supriya Srinath, the party’s head of social media and digital platforms, told a press conference that the video had a full disclaimer that it was an “AI-generated video” and was not intended to mislead viewers. He argued that its content reflected issues repeatedly raised by opposition parties inside and outside parliament, including questions about national security decisions, foreign policy choices and proximity to businesses.

Shrinate claimed that the takedown notices were issued by police authorities in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states such as Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. She further claimed that some of the instructions came directly from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology headed by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnau. She noted that the ministry is playing a central role in organizing the ongoing AI Summit in the capital.

According to Shrinate, most of the notices cite sections 69A and 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, as well as provisions of the People’s Republic of India Act, 2023 on defamation and disturbance of public order. She argued that these provisions were being used against political opponents in opaque ways and that there was limited scope for legal challenge.

He also criticized the recently launched online portal, Sahyog, for giving cross-ministerial officials the power to issue takedown orders to social media platforms. Shrinate further claimed that a young member of the party’s social media team received a call from police authorities describing the move as blackmail.

The Congress leader also criticized the ongoing AI Summit, alleging mismanagement and reputational damage.
