What’s the story?
Kerala has launched a state-wide artificial intelligence (AI) literacy campaign ‘Sarvam AI Mayam’ (AI is everywhere) targeting 600,000 parents. The initiative is the largest of its kind in India and is being implemented by the Kerala Education Infrastructure and Technology (KITE). Under this program, students from the Little KITEs IT club will provide AI training through public schools across the state.
Training continues until June 30th
The ‘Sarvam AI Mayam’ campaign will run till June 30, 2026. The campaign will be implemented in 2,200 Little KITE units, with an average of 300 parents trained in each unit. The two-hour training module covers both the opportunities and risks associated with AI. KITE CEO K Anvar Sadath said the initiative will begin with a brief introduction to machine learning, a technology that enables machines to learn from data and make decisions just like humans.
Practical application of AI in daily life
The training session will showcase the creative potential of AI by showing an animated video of a classic painting by Raja Ravi Varma. We will focus on the practical application of AI in daily life through smartphones. Parents will be trained to use AI-powered tools to identify birds and plants, and translate signboards from Tamil to Malayalam in real-time.
How to spot deepfake videos and fake images
The ‘Sarvam AI Mayam’ campaign provides hands-on experience with an AI assistant to write poems, plan trips, and create recipes from available ingredients. It also shows you how to use AI to recover old family photos. Along with these practical benefits, this project warns of the potential dangers in the digital space. This curriculum teaches parents how to identify deepfake videos, fake images, and cloned voices, and equips them with precautions against such scams.
