Alibaba Group Holdings chairman Joe Tsai He said that the large-scale language model (LLMS) of open sourcing will spur the surge in artificial intelligence (AI) applications and will increase the demand for cloud computing.
One reason Alibaba chose to open source the Qwen model is to “democratize the use of AI” and “growing applications”, which contributes to the company's cloud computing business.
“The way we benefit from open source is by promoting the demand for AI, promoting the training needs, and seeing a lot of the needs of reasoning in the future,” he said.
Alibaba, owner of South China Morning Post, has invested heavily in AI and cloud computing along with major e-commerce businesses following the sweep restructuring initiative launched two years ago to streamline the vast empire.

According to TSAI, China's vibrant consumer internet landscape combined with a competitive culture among local engineers promotes the country's AI innovation.
