‘Avengers’ director talks about artificial intelligence
Joe Russo is sounding the alarm about artificial intelligence.
Six days before the Writers Guild of America (WGA) called for a strike, I spoke to Joe Russo about his concerns about AI at the premiere of “Citadel” in Los Angeles. The use of AI is a major point of contention between the Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTA). “I think everyone should be afraid of AI,” Russo said. “Social I don’t know if you’ve heard the Drake ‘song’ he’s dropping on the media, but here it is. I’m not going anywhere. “
The “Avengers” director said that for AI to work, “the tools should serve us, not serve the tools.”
“Look at James Cameron’s entire career when creatives are engaged and creatives are leading the way in using technology. That technology ends up serving artists, not the other way around.” AI Enterprise, go on. “It might be a different story if companies drive adoption of the technology.”
During contract negotiations, the WGA suggested that under its new contract with AMPTP, AI could not be considered “literary material” or “source material.” Likewise, this does not affect the writer’s compensation for the script. The WGA pushed back against his AMPTP proposal to meet annually to discuss AI issues.
The writers’ strike began on May 2, when APMTP ended contract negotiations with the WGA just hours before its expiry date.
Judd Apatow said variety On Saturday, he believes the studio may not want the strike to end so soon.
“They probably already know they’re going to give in,” Apatow said at Rock4EB’s event in Malibu on Saturday. “I think they already know when this is going to end. They’ve probably been planning this for years.”
