Riyadh: Viticulture is an important aspect of the agricultural activities of the Central Qasim region, producing approximately 30,000 tons each season.
Fruits play an important role in the region's economy. This role produces not only 35% of the Kingdom's date (approximately 528,000 tons per year), but also crops such as figs, berry, wheat, and livestock in a range of fields.
According to Saudi Arabian news outlets, Kasim farms benefit from fertile soil and climate suitable for producing high-quality fruits.
Grape cultivation is particularly concentrated in several governors, especially Uyun Alziwa, Al Badaea and Al Mitnab.
The region produces a variety of grape varieties, including green and red Thompson seedless, black magic and halga crocodile.
Kassim mayor Mohammed bin Mubarak al-Majali emphasized the municipality's commitment to organizing seasonal agricultural festivals.
These events support farmers and stimulate economic and tourism activities.
Al Majali highlighted the richness and diversity grape products featured at the festival as a source of pride for the region's agricultural success.
He also mentioned efforts to empower local agriculture by working with local government branches such as the city of Alkawara and other government agencies to involve them in festival activities.
Meanwhile, Salman Al-Suwaina, director of the Ministry of the Environment's Qassim branch of Water and Agriculture, described grape agriculture as a promising agricultural resource.
He pointed to strong local support for investment and related manufacturing.
Al-Suwaina said Qassim's 30,000 tonnes of grapes are seasonally serving local markets and retaining significant export potential.
He also pointed to growing demand for grape-derived products such as juice, molasses, raisins and natural vinegar.
The region continues to expand its grape cultivation, provide technical and advisory support to farmers, increase productivity and contribute to food security in line with Saudi Vision 2030 goals.
The currently ongoing Grape Festival at Uyun Al-Jiwa continues through Friday, attracting many visitors and shoppers.
