Veteran author and lyricist Javed Akhtar today wrote a note on his social media, saying that a viral video claiming to have “turned to God” was generated by artificial intelligence and that he is considering reporting those responsible.
The lyricist stated in a note on his X handle that such misinformation is the cause of damage to his reputation and credibility. “There's a fake video out there showing a fake computer-generated photo of me with a topic on top of my head and ultimately claiming that I turned back to God. This is bullshit,” he wrote.
He added: “I am seriously considering reporting this to the cyber police and ultimately taking those responsible for this fake news and the few who forwarded it to court for damaging my reputation and credibility.”
This is not the first instance of AI-generated content featuring celebrities online. In the past, doctored videos and images of actors such as Rashmika Mandanna, Kangana Ranaut, Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar have surfaced on the internet.
A few days ago, Javed Akhtar and Islamic scholar Mufti Shamail Nadwi took part in a public debate titled “Does God Exist?” in New Delhi. At the Indian Constitution Club. After some discussion, the final AI-generated image was posted on social media.
Javed's tweet comes days after Kangana expressed concerns about her AI-edited photos. The AI-edited photo showed Kangana leaving Parliament wearing a blue, brown and rust-colored suit. She shared the post and wrote, “Originally these are my photos taken in Parliament wearing a sari. Please stop using AI on my photos.”
She added, “This is an unspeakable violation. Every day I wake up in the morning and see myself wearing different Al clothes and wearing different makeup, even in edited photos. People need to stop dressing up others!! Stop editing these Al and let me choose/decide how I want to look and what I want to wear, which is completely my prerogative.”
Last month, actors Sreeela and Nivetha Thomas spoke out about the dangers of AI-generated content, advocating for ethical use and raising awareness of potential privacy violations.
