Renowned lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has threatened to take legal action after dismissing a viral video in which he claims to have changed his personal beliefs.
On Thursday, January 1, Akhtar accessed his X account and shared that the clip of himself wearing a hat was an AI video that he falsely presented as evidence of a supposed change of faith.
“There's a fake video going around showing a fake computer-generated photo of me with a topi (hat) on my head and ultimately saying I turned to God. It's rubbish,” the 80-year-old wrote in a social media post.
The veteran author further said that he is considering contacting the cyber police to take action against the creators of the fake video.
He also pointed out that legal proceedings could also extend to individuals who knowingly forwarded the clips for spreading false information.
The five-time National Film Award winner also expressed concern about the damage such content could do to his public image.
The controversy arose in the wake of a recent public debate between Akhtar and Islamic scholar Mufti Shamail Nadwi titled “Does God Exist?” that quickly gained attention online.
