The head of Iran's Cyberspace Production and Information Exchange Police (FATA) has warned against the increasing production and dissemination of artificial intelligence-generated fake images and videos falsely attributed to commanders, officials and employees of the country's military and law enforcement agencies on social media.
Citing reports and expert assessments received from FATA experts, Brigadier General Vahid Majid said that in recent days, many social media pages, especially Instagram, have misused advanced AI technology to create completely fabricated images and videos and falsely attribute them to police commanders, senior officials, and the military.
He added that such fake content is created and disseminated with the aim of creating doubts, spreading misinformation and undermining the psychological safety of the public, stressing that these contents have no basis in reality and have no connection with military personnel or officials.
The FATA chief stressed that those who misuse the capabilities of artificial intelligence are engaging in deception and manipulation of public opinion.
Majid further pointed out that under current national law, the production, publication, and even deliberate re-sharing of false images or videos by individuals or organizations constitutes a criminal offense.
He called on the public to verify the authenticity of online content before sharing it and especially refrain from reposting unverified images and videos attributed to police, military or other public authorities.
