The percentage of U.S. employees who reported using AI at work at least several times a year increased from 40% to 45% between Q2 and Q3 of 2025. Frequent use (several times a week or more) increased from 19% to 23%, while daily use decreased, increasing from 8% to 10% over the same period.

The latest Gallup Workforce results are based on a nationally representative survey of 23,068 full- and part-time employed U.S. adults conducted on the web using the Gallup Panel from August 5th to 19th.

U.S. employees in knowledge-based jobs such as technology and professional services were more likely to use AI than those in front-line jobs. 76% of technology or information systems employees, 58% of finance employees, and 57% of professional services employees used AI at least a few times a year in their jobs. In contrast, in industries with a higher proportion of frontline employees, 33% of retail, 37% of healthcare, and 38% of manufacturing employees report using AI in the workplace with the same frequency.

The workforce is divided based on the organization’s level of AI adoption.

In Q3 2025, 37% of employees said their organization is implementing AI technology to improve productivity, efficiency, and quality. 40% said they were not aware of their organization, and 23% said they did not know. The proportion who said they didn't know was lower than the proportion who said they had used AI at work at least a few times in the past year, but higher than the proportion who said they used it frequently. This gap suggests that some employees were using personal AI tools or otherwise using AI without being aware of the organization's AI strategy.

Employees in individual contributor roles (26%) were more likely than managers (16%) or leaders (7%) to say they don't know if their organization has implemented AI technology. Part-time employees, front-line workers, and employees in front-line roles and industries also reported higher levels of uncertainty. Employees who are removed from organizational decision-making are less aware of AI implementation.

Previous versions of this question did not provide an “I don't know” answer, effectively encouraging respondents to make their best guess. In this format, the percentage of employees who believed their organization was implementing AI increased from 33% in May 2024 to 44% in May 2025, while the percentage of employees who said their organization was not implementing AI decreased from 67% to 56%.

In its latest survey, Gallup added a “don't know” option to capture uncertainty around AI adoption. Results for Q3 2025 are not directly comparable to previous measurements, as respondents may indicate a lack of knowledge. The fact that 23% said they don't know highlights the wide disparity in how well employees are informed about AI implementation.

Employees use AI to synthesize information and generate ideas

In the Q2 2025 survey, more than 4 in 10 employees who used AI at least once a year said they used AI technology to integrate information (42%) and generate ideas (41%), and 36% said they used AI technology to learn new things. What employees reported using AI did not change significantly from Gallup's initial measurements in Q2 2024.

When asked what type of AI they used in their job, more than 6 in 10 U.S. employees who used AI at work said they used a chatbot or virtual assistant. The next most used tool is AI writing and editing tools (36%), followed by AI coding assistants (14%).

While the use of more advanced AI tools, such as those designed for data science, analysis, and coding, is still relatively rare, employees who reported frequent use of AI in the workplace were more likely to use such tools. The biggest differences between those who frequently use AI in the workplace and those who don't are in the use of coding assistants (22% vs. 8%) and data science or analytics tools (18% vs. 8%).

The use of AI in the workplace continues to grow, with 45% of employees saying they used AI at least a few times a year in Q3 2025. Yet, day-to-day use remains limited to about 10% of the U.S. workforce, falls short of organizational AI adoption rates, and is concentrated in specific roles and industries. Gallup research shows that widespread adoption of AI among the workforce is strongly associated with increased management support for AI and the strategic integration of AI into employee roles.
