Demand for AI employment has been rising recently, with many coming together to pursue careers on the field.
This appears to be true in Singapore, where the government is planning to invest S$1 billion to strengthen its AI capabilities.
In fact, according to the employment and matching platform, searches for AI jobs on the site increased by nearly 150% from March 2018 to March 2023, as announced by the July 11 press release in a July 11 press release.
But is the talent and the skills needed really there to meet the AI jobs available in the market? What is actually shared is the most sought-after skills in this field.
1. Machine Learning
In fact, it has been shown that 61% of Singapore's Generated AI jobs refer to “machine learning.”
Machine learning refers to the field of AI that deals with the development and research of statistical algorithms that can learn from data, generalize to invisible data, and perform tasks without explicit instructions.

Simply put, it's all about enabling AI to mimic the ways humans learn.
In this area, courses are available online at Coursera by companies like IBM and institutions like Stanford.
2. Python capabilities
The most popular programming language sought in the AI world seems to be Python, with over half (54%) of generated AI jobs actually seeking Python skills.
For beginners, Python is a generic coding language built on the philosophy of code readability.
It is considered a beginner's programming language, with many platforms like Codecademy and Datacamp offering courses.
3. Pytorch and C++ expertise
Pytorch proficiency is also required, and will appear in 24% of job ads.
As Nvidia said, Pytorch is a fully introduced framework for building deep learning models, a type of machine learning.
Its main interfaces are the Python language and what is called the Torch Library, an open source machine learning library.
It can also be used in the C++ programming language, which is mentioned in 23% of job ads.
There are resources to talk about Pytorch, such as Pytorch.org and Learnpytorch.io.
4. Deep learning
19% of the site's job listings actually reported mentioning deep learning.

Deep learning is quite similar to machine learning. To explain the difference, Google Cloud says that machine learning is more explicitly used as a means of extracting knowledge from data via simpler methods such as decision trees and linear regression.
Deep learning, on the other hand, uses more advanced methods found in artificial neural networks.
IBM has a page dedicated to sharing the fundamentals of deep learning. There is also a website called deeplearning.ai, which was founded in 2017, which may be useful too.
Fluidity ency of various programming languages
Just like any other language, having fluency in a variety of programming languages allows you to step into the industry.
In fact, the language mention of programming languages in AI job ads has been disbanded.
- Java: 18%
- C: 13%
- SQL: 12%
- Sparks: 11%
- Linux: 10%
As Callam Pickering, a senior economist at APAC, actually said, “As AI becomes more important across the industry, these skills are growing. This data helps recruiters target specific skills and keep job seekers competitive.”
“Companies in Singapore face a lack of talent in fierce competition driven by AI,” he added. “Recruiters need to prioritize AI skills recruitment, which should meet demand and keep pace with Singapore's AI growth.”
