The father of his £1 billion start-up reveals the secret to his success.
Emad Mostak, 40, is the founder and CEO of artificial intelligence giant StabilityAI, and has recently been in talks with Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
But the London-based father of two has worked hard to get to where he is today and doesn’t plan to quit anytime soon.
Emad started by developing AI at home to help his son with autism, and has gone on to employ 150 people worldwide for his billion-pound empire.
The 40-year-old normally lives in Notting Hill, but has started commuting to San Francisco for work.
On a recent trip, Emad met Amazon founder and CEO Bezos and signed a deal with Twitter CEO Musk.
The secret to success in the world of AI, he says, is to use AI to help humans rather than overtake them.
Emad told The Times: “I take a different approach than everyone else in this field because almost everyone else is trying to build AGI, whereas I am building a narrow model that extends humans. be” [Artificial general intelligence] To almost replace humans and keep an eye on them. ”
Emad is from Bangladesh, but his parents moved to England when he was a boy, and the family settled in Walthamstow, London.
His father said he was always good at numbers in school, but struggled socially because he has Asperger’s and ADHD.
The 40-year-old studied computer science and mathematics at Oxford before becoming a hedge fund manager.
But when Emad’s son was diagnosed with autism, he quit to develop something to help young people.
“We went through all the literature, extracted the possible hits, and built an AI that reused drugs,” Emad recalled.
Thanks to homegrown AI, the family was able to craft an approach that would get their son to a better, brighter place, he says.
And as a result, Emad inspired himself.
He started a charity that aims to give 1 billion children tablets with AI tutors.
He added: “Can you imagine if every child had their own AI to look after them and a personalized system to teach them and learn from them?
“Ten years from now, twenty years from now, when they’re adults, they’re going to change the world.”
Emad also recently founded the £1bn startup Stability AI, which is one of the companies behind Stable Diffusion.
This tool has taken the world by storm in recent months with its ability to create photo-worthy images from simple text prompts.
Now Emad continues to develop AI, which he says is one of the most important inventions in history.
He described it as “somewhere between a fire and an internal combustion engine.”
