How to start your career with artificial intelligence in 2021

AI and ML Jobs

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are already shaping our future, and the demand for talented engineers is skyrocketing. According to a future report from Market Research, the machine learning market is projected to be worth almost $31 billion by 2024.

At Skillup 2021, Nitin Gupta, a technology leader and alumni spoke in detail about artificial intelligence as their careers towards digital innovation in India.

With 14 years of experience in engagement and delivery, technical program management and agile software development, Gupta has worked with companies such as Lenskart and Senior World. He also co-founded Zercross, a mobile and web application startup.

AI Applications

Artificial intelligence has an impact on all industries. Gupta believes that most AI innovations are being carried out in research and development labs of major high-tech companies such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google and Microsoft.

AI has applications in an area that includes:

  • health care
  • work
  • education
  • Self-driving cars
  • Social Media
  • Travel and sightseeing
  • Create a better world

Gupta then acquired several subsets of artificial intelligence, including natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and more.

Gupta also spoke about the lifecycle of an AI project for a typical organization.

  • Data Engineering: Prepare the data and convert it into a format that can be used by other team members.
  • modeling: Look for patterns of data that will help companies predict the outcome of various decisions, business risks, and opportunities, as well as determine the relationship between causes and effects.
  • Expanding: Get a stream of data and combine it with the model to test the integration before the model is brought into production.
  • Business Analysis: Evaluate the performance and business value of the deployed model and adjust accordingly to maximize profits or abandon the unproductive model.
  • AI Infrastructure: Building and maintaining reliable, fast, safe and scalable software systems, helping people participate in data engineering, modeling, deployment and business analytics.

“It overlaps quite a bit with the kinds of tasks that each of these individual roles manages, but the range of skills required for each task complements each other.”

Citing the differences between machine learning engineers and data scientists, Gupta said that ML engineers need more practical data engineering, modeling, deployment and AI infrastructure. In contrast, the role of data scientists focuses on tasks such as data engineering, modeling, and business analytics.

“AI and ML job profile salaries are higher compared to other job roles, such as Android or IOS full stack, backend, frontend engineer or native engineer. However, wage measures also depend on a variety of factors, such as educational background, interview process, skills, and experience,” explained Gupta.

In fact, citing the report from 2016 to 2018, Gupta said that demand for artificial intelligence employment is rising year-on-year (Yoy).

According to Gupta, the average yearly sals for machine learning engineers and data scientists are much higher than for Devops engineers, software engineers and web developers. Additionally, he said machine learning and data scientists are currently one of the top 20 emerging jobs worldwide.

In India, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and Mumbai are the top three in AI/ML jobs, followed by Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai, and Gupta share.

“This will help you in the long run, so always be interested,” concluded Gupta, saying that AI will remain at the heart of future technological innovation and business growth.
