Situation analysis
Steve Chase, vice-chairman of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation at KPMG, said part of the company's business involves helping organizations across the industry modernize their operations with technologies such as accounting systems and customer service.
Recently, Chase said more clients are seeking help in incorporating artificial intelligence and cloud services into their digital transformation strategies.
To help, KPMG announced its expansion of its partnership with Google Cloud in November, moving forward with its clients Genai, data analytics and cybersecurity. The expansion includes KPMG's $100 million investment in Google Cloud Practice.
Chase said the goal is to coordinate AI services to specific customers, business models and industries, allowing these organizations to improve their business, including using AI to speed up data analytics.
The expanded Google Cloud Partnership will initially focus on clients in the retail, healthcare and financial services industries.

Chase said KPMG has been using AI for several years and has a long-standing relationship with Google. In 2024, KPMG created the Google Cloud Center of Excellence, combining Google's AI technology with unique expertise to help clients use AI to boost their business. Its latest partnership expansion includes creating new AI tools.
KPMG is also working with other high-tech companies on Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and other AI-related projects.
AI Action
KPMG uses Vertex AI Search from Google Cloud. It is an AI development platform for building and using Genai, connecting and analyzing a huge amount of data internally. Chase said the company is using this information to develop Genai agents for clients such as chatbots to answer questions and tools for collecting and analyzing data, addressing a variety of business challenges and expanding its capabilities.
For example, Chase said KPMG uses Vertex AI and Gemini, assistants powered by Google Cloud AI, to help financial-service companies automate human-sting tasks, such as fraud detection and loan applications.
Chase added that KPMG has also built an AI “store performance analyzer” for large retailers. The tool allows companies to use automation to speed up and combine information from store locations, such as inventory levels, sales data, and location details, to determine performance compared to other stores.
“You can actually do detailed analysis quickly,” once completed by a team of people, and took time. “Now, those involved are actually reviewing the results.
For healthcare clients, KPMG uses Google Cloud's Healthcare API to develop AI tools that help physicians improve disease detection, treatment, and overall patient care.
It worked, and how did the leader know?
Chase said the partnership between KPMG and Google Cloud could drive the company's $1 billion growing growth. “We're very pleased with how it goes,” he said.
He said he could not disclose details about how the company will reach this figure, but he said it would be a multi-year initiative that involves adding new clients and expanding the AI services it offers to existing companies.
KPMG continues to roll out new AI initiatives. In April, the company announced another expansion of its collaboration with Google Cloud on AI tools for the legal and banking industry. KPMG has also announced that it will be participating in the Google Cloud Security Partner program to enhance cybersecurity for its clients.
