A viral video circulating on social media falsely claims Orca trainer Jessi Kaladcliffe was killed by a killer whale during a live performance. The dramatic clip, which appears to portray a violent attack in front of an audience, sparked fear and rage online.
However, research by fact-checking platform Misbar has confirmed that the story is fully manufactured. The video in question was not filmed during the actual event, but was generated using artificial intelligence.
The footage that first spread widely across Tiktok had a watermark linked to AI video generation tools, including the VEO platform. A thorough examination showed clear indications of the creation of AI. There was no realistic symmetry in the facial features of the trainer, and Orca looked cartoonish with awkwardly smooth texture, while members of the background audience showed a distorted formula.
There are no official reports, safety records or reliable news reports from Jessica Radcliffe or any of such attacks. The fake narrative appears to exploit public emotional responses to animal attack stories, particularly orcas.
This particular incident is fictitious, but ORCA-related trainer deaths have occurred in the past. Most notably, in February 2010, when the US Trainer Dawn Branch was killed by Orcatilicum of Sea World Orlando. Other incidents include the 2009 death of Spanish trainer Alexis Martinez in Tenerife, and the 1991 fatality in Pacific Sealand, Canada.
Orca, the largest member of the Dolphin family, is a highly intelligent and social marine mammal that roams the vast marine territory. When taken prisoner, they live in limited tanks and are trained through active reinforcement to carry out public show actions. However, trapping and separation from family pods can cause stress and sometimes lead to attack.
