HKU, Beijing announces AI Technologies Report live

The Faculty of Information and Electronics Engineering at the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) has partnered with the China Information and Electronics Science and Technology Development Strategic Research Center to release “AI Technology for the Next Generation of Information Engineering Science and Technology Technology.”

The Hong Kong press conference was broadcast live alongside the Beijing event and was held at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Professor Xiang Zhang, president and vice president of HKU, and Professor Max Shen, vice president of HKU and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (research) attended the event alongside over 100 academics and students.

The press conference was hosted by Academic AguOfei, the dean of CAE's Department of Information and Electronics Engineering. CAE President Xiaohong Li gave a speech, and scholar Aiguo Fei published the report, while scholar Shaohua Yu introduced the research progress. Professor Max Shen gave a speech on behalf of the university.

CAE President Xiaohong Li said through the release of the report he aims to ensure that the development of artificial intelligence is consistent with the strategic needs of the nation. The initiative aims to promote deep integration of artificial intelligence and traditional industries, achieving “gradual innovation” in existing industries and “breakthroughs” in emerging and future industries. At the same time, the academy aims to leverage the collective intelligence of its members to provide professional, constructive and practical opinions and suggestions, supporting scientific decision-making in a variety of fields.

CAE Information and Electronics Dean Academic Aguo FEI has introduced reports that include “List of Emerging Industry and Future Industrial Technologies Related to AI” (163 entries), “List of Industry Upgrades and Interdisciplinary Technologies Related to AI” (122 entries), and “List of Projected AI Hot Technologies.” The report extensively collected opinions from experts and the public based on 58 blue books already published by the division, input from over 300 experts from 13 subfield groups, and results from over 20 strategic consulting projects conducted by the CAE.

Professor Max Shen said, “CAE is the head of the national think tank and the highest honor and advisory academic institution in the field of engineering and technology, has jointly released a report with HKU in both Beijing and Hong Kong. Deep integration of engineering, science, social sciences and other fields with artificial intelligence, HKU is actively working together as it bridges the development of technology in the region and international community, and actively collaborates with CAE in various aspects, including actively researching technological innovations. We will promote and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the mainland, seeking more technical collaboration, achieving greater breakthroughs in artificial intelligence technologies and applications.”
